April 26-28th: Sakura Con
has doubled in size since the previous year! The staff is still superior to any
convention and the guests are treated the best.
Friday: Virgil lost one of his Kenshiro shoes on the train. We took a town car
from the hotel to the mall to buy new ones. Our driver was a Russian Armenian
who had his cellphone set to play a classical Russian ditty. Very colorful drive.
We set up our booth (Sypher Publications) and started selling our comic books.
Meanwhile, I bumped into the baka guys. I also got to meet Jessica Calvelo and
Doug Smith. I repeatedly kept bumping into both of them the remainder of the convention.
Fun. Yet again, I wasn't able to sign up for karaoke. This time due to the list
being filled up within the first hour. Nick, Osiris, did an awesome performance
I heard to another jpop crazy song -by Dir En Grey. I did get up for open mic
but the crowd was gone, and the mic was taken from me as I stood at it by obnoxious,
greedy people while I waited for my song to start. I think those people really
made the crowd leave. Also a girl went up right before me sang three songs in
a row. Not fair. It's not like I didn't want to do other things at the convention
that night. I'll try again next year. The baka group got together that evening/early
morning to come up with a skit.
Here's our Character
Info. I went around as Yuria and Virgil went around as Kenshiro.
Saturday: We got ready for the cosplay masquerade. We came up with our final skit
yet again last second. This time though we had more people than expected so it
was a bit harder trying to find a part for everyone. There were some funny moments
though. We had fun with the cosplay masquerade on Saturday. A few people, not
with our group, had power trips on all of lined up in the back waiting to go on.
I guess they are overwhelmed by their seniority or "mental" seniority within the
otaku world. I'm not a sailor moon fan but that skit was really funny and they all wore such nice costumes!
Sunday: My Magic Bubbles were a hit at Closing Ceremonies. Who'd have known. I
thought I'd get beaten up by the staff for blowing them. Cool turn out anyway
and I enjoyed watching the crowd try to blow the bubbles onto the stage. The spotlight
was even put on one at one time and the crowd cheered as an otaku leaped to save
it from floating to the ground. Anime
Filking on Sunday was really fun and though I only got to play one
of my songs on my guitar, everyone liked it alot. Cool!
All in all, we sold almost all of our books, so Sypher will be back next year with a booth again. I still hold this convention over all others I've been too. I look forward to next year!
Ok that's all for now folks. Pictures are up!
