AX 97'-01'

AX 01'

Ah well no pics from this event...yet. I could have sworn I took a couple but I can't find them. BUT! Have no fear. Here is the report, though a bit late as well as I'm finally getting around to it and 2002 began.(busy year for me)
OKAY! Well as usual, AX is awesome! Soooo much to do and see however like I've been saying the past two years, it's TOO big and the program scheduling is messed up. We did get a chance to sit in for two voice-over demos on an anime where I got a shot at it. It's very hard when you don't know how to read a Japanese anime script written in romaji and the others around you are Japan natives and speaking their anime character's roles in Japanese really fast. "OH! It's my turn to speak already?" "Nope. Not any more. You missed your chance." "DANG IT! This sucks!" "Well when you actually manage to speak your lines occasionally, you sounds really good." "Yeah well it helps to understand Japanese." I'm working on it. Trust me.
They also had a pretty large arcade upstairs in one main hotel with a bunch of those really fun interactive dance and hand swish games.
The exhibition hall was huge. Lots of duplicates though so not as big in regards to item options as it looks though it did help make the competition have lower prices. I only stayed Friday through Saturday with a good friend helping us out with a room to sleep in for that night. We didn't stay for the masquerade as we realized early that day that we were already too late to get in. In conclusion, ANIME EXPO is AWESOME AND STUPID!!!! I don't like it very much any more. Definitely hit up AX though for an overwhelming rush of ideas and new products and info. I find more enjoyment in the smaller conventions of other areas and states though. Try Sakura-Con if your looking for adventure, heart, asian education, hanging out with the stars, huge groups without suffocation, and kinder award givers for masquerade plus guaranteed viewing of the event every time either by hotel room or by hall seating.

Unfortunately I brought a camera but everyone else did too...not saying I didn't have a blast but that's the reason I have no pictures of my own.
As far the convention went, my opinion is:
As usual the scheduling was screwed As usual (and growing) the place was too crowded and too big As usual there was no comraderie feeling among guests...or it was a rare thing..."minding my own business" unless you came with friends like Comic-Con. As usual there was an awesome display of costumes and a huge variety of activities...if you could find them.
And finally... As usual I still had a great time WHICH Brings me to...

NAFUDA

~Ever wonder...
Yes, if you're fluent in Japanese, you'd have realized that "NAFUDA" means "nametag"...But fret not! NAFUDA is the group of anime friends I hung out with here in California which was founded in AX97' when AX was one year away from reaching it's peak.

We have finished last year's Anime Expo 99' in Anaheim, CA! We went as mixed themed. Though none of us participated in the masquerade(every one knows how sucky the whole ordeal got- aside from the awesome costumes that were on display up on stage), we did a ton of walk-arounds for the 3 day event. For me, it was more fun to become my character for a full 3 day opportunity then become my character for a 1 minute shot up onstage...but I would've liked to do a skit anyhow. poutpoutkickrocks ALRIGHT so now AX2000! But first, here are the photo archives of AX99' and AX98'!
